Storage is not a technology of the future. It is a necessity of the present. That is the view of Alicia Carrasco, CEO of olivoENERGY and Executive Director of ENTRA, in her conversation with our CEO Felipe Gracia.
And yet, many requests to install storage are being rejected by distributors because there is no room on the grid. Spain has spent years investing in renewable generation, but has neglected the other side of the equation: the flexibility, the grid infrastructure, and the storage needed to actually make use of it.
For Alicia, the solution comes down to something specific: “a macro implementation plan”. We have European directives, we have the PNIEC, but no real roadmap for how to execute them. And while that roadmap remains absent, companies keep delaying their decarbonisation decisions and the system loses opportunities that will not come back.
If you want to understand what is holding back the energy transition in Spain and what needs to change, do not miss the full interview.
